Coptoberfest has raised over £18,000 for local charities since the event began four years ago.
Copmanthorpe’s annual beer festival, dubbed ‘Coptoberfest’, is organised by vicar, Rev. Geoff Mumford and Ainsty Ales owner, Andy Harrington and last Sunday, the team proudly presented cheques totalling over £3,500 to this years’ beneficiaries. Donations went to a plethora of different charities, including St. Leonard’s Hospice, Panda Playgroup, 1st Copmanthorpe Rainbows, Copmanthorpe Youth Club and Copmanthorpe Primary School.
Rev. Geoff Mumford said:
“This is exactly how we envisaged Coptoberfest. “It brings the local community together in a social setting and the outcome benefits so many charities and good causes.
“The support of the volunteers, breweries, distilleries, community and sponsors is greatly appreciated. All credit should go to them.”
“The event relies on a team of volunteers who help in every stage of the event – from planning and organising, to pulling pints and serving the pie and pea supper. Out of the money raised from the sale of beer and admission fees, only a minimum amount is taken to cover material costs with the rest going to charity and good causes.”
Bill Hulme, Medical Director at St. Leonard’s Hospice said:
“As a charity, we really appreciate any form of donations we receive. It really makes a difference to the care we can provide and it’s events such as this which really help us and of course, the people we help. I would like to thank everyone involved.”
Martin Wing, Leader of Copmanthorpe explorer Scouts, said:
“The Scouting organisation is run by volunteers – and in Copmanthorpe alone we have over 120 young people who benefit from Scouting. The money we’ve received today will go towards new equipment, such as hammocks, to give young people some great experiences and new skill sets.”
